Weekend Glamour: See ‘Do Not Disturb’
If you are looking for something glamorous and low key to do this weekend, I urge you to visit the Michael Hoppen Gallery in Chelsea, London just off of Kings Rd. They are currently host to an exhibition by my all-time favourite photographer, Ellen Von Unwerth. She is one of the most notable and dynamic fashion photographers today. Her work is playful, glamorous, erotic and FASHION all at once! She is famous for being able to get her subjects to feel free and easy while they play around and goof-off on set. The results are always glamorous, high-contrast, and lush!
The gallery is a small one with impeccable taste and it is worth checking back again when they have new exhibitions in. Once their friendly staff buzz you in (it is free by the way), you walk up a creaking staircase to find the upper floor of the gallery, a library-esque small room painted a rich crimson. There are big comfy chairs to relax in and a table in the center of the room for leafing through their great collection of photography books…including many of Von Unwerth’s.
The photos are displayed in very large format in beautiful frames on the walls. I like how large they are so that you can really take in all of the beautiful styling and details of the shoot. This particular show called ‘ Do Not Disturb’ features lovely models in lingerie lounging in the many splendored rooms of the Madonna Inn in LA. The design of the rooms is well-known and I would love to stay at such an iconic location! Particularly if I was being shot by Ellen. The first photo above really makes me want pink hair! Enjoy and make sure to visit!
