Shhhh Victoria’s Secret Has Been Revealed in London
Ladies and gentlemen, Victoria’s Secret has been unleashed on London. A wave of pink and fierce femininity and sparkle and fun is upon us! The latest American import to these shores opened last week on August 29th. I was lucky enough to go and explore the shop on Bond Street (111 New Bond St, London W1A 3BS) on opening day which was a lovely reminder of home.
Victoria’s Secret has long been a beloved American staple and is famous for it’s high-octane catwalk shows which any average Joe or Jane can enjoy on TV every Autumn. Unfortunately there was none of that pageantry or glitz at the opening as none of the famous Victoria’s Secret angels angels were present. I do think the brand missed a trick by not making a bigger deal of the launch of their flagship store…you only get one UK opening after all.
It was a merry occasion just the same. It was nice to see that the shop attendants were just as excited as the guests for the opening. The perfume girl told me in a hushed voice that she couldn’t believe she was working for such a fun brand! I love it when people enjoy their jobs don’t you?
As you enter the store you are met with a wave of frothy fruity perfume as the many different VS fragrances are spread out bedecking the walls in front of you. To the right and left are rooms upon rooms of gorgeous lingerie including my favourite the ‘Bombshell Collection’ seen above in pictures. Everywhere you look there is something frilly or sparkly to see and it feels like a cocoon of girliness with dark-toned furnishings and flattering low lighting.
If you walk straight through the perfume hall, you arrive at la piece de la resistance: the mirrored stairway. The nod to Chanel is unmistakable and not unwelcome as I would say the shop has a distinct french boudoir feel about it. For those of you who have had the pleasure of visiting the Chantal Thomass shop in Paris (home to amazing luxury lingerie designs), this is a similarly lush and lovely interior design…it just makes you want to BUY something!
The first floor up is even more pink and frilly than before with gorgeous VS catwalk costumes on display. The top floor is a lux VIP fitting room and lounge area where guests by themselves or in groups (think pre-anniversary lingerie shopping with the girls) can relax in a more private setting and work with a personal shopper. This was my favourite area because it was so nice and quiet with fresh flowers, coffee table books and, no doubt champagne on request.
I’ll be definitely be visiting again soon for another dose of girly delight. And for the uninitiated and the longtime fans: the VS Fashion show is Friday Nov 9th in NYC.
